Greenkeeper Appointment
Appointment of a new green keeper for the Timaru Golf Club
 
Following the adoption of the Clubs Strategic Plan and the very strong support from the annual club
survey the committee agreed to advertise for, and to appoint a new Greenkeeper for the club
I am delighted to announce we have made an appointment.
 
I ask you all to welcome Kenneth Hodge as our new Greenkeeper.
 
Ken come from the Templeton Golf Club where he is 2IC. Prior to Templeton he was head supervisor at Lincoln Golf Club
 
Ken will start on the 22nd August
 
In making this announcement, and on behalf of the Committee I want to sincerely thank Graeme Brown and the Greens Team for what they have achieved in making the course what it is today. If you went back 8 years the course was in dire straits.The club was in financial trouble and the course was in poor condition. It has been transformed since those grim days of no water and limited development. We must acknowledge Graeme’s dedication to the club. He has made a huge commitment and we thank him.
 
We will still need volunteers to assist the new Greenkeeper.
 
The committee will put in place a development plan for the course so we adopt a pathway of continuous improvement
 
This decision is a major strategic decision for the development of the club

WOMENS SECTION
Hey

The Centenary cup 2BBB will now be held the week of  6 -12 August due to the huge amount of rain we have had in the last week... this is also a Putting round so please count your putts and let Lois or Cath (in charge month of August) or myself know please
 
Keep up the matches for 4BBB and foursome please

Hopfully this week we will get some golf in comp of the week is PAR

It looks like we can make two teams of six with a couple of extra reserves - we have anticipated some of you who have not been to the club in the last couple of weeks will want to enter.  Four from each team will play on the Fridays below and the 3 best stablefords will be aggregated.  You cannot swap teams even if you are a reserve.

Friday 12 August - Pleasant Point
Friday 26 August - Geraldine
Friday 9 September - Temuka
Friday 23 September - Timaru
 
The entries close on Monday 25 July - the club pays the entry fee - so I will collect more names on Thursday and we can choose two captains to organise their teams with the names provided.  As there are no divisions we will try to even out the teams.
 
I look forward to lots of players coming on Thursday.  If you haven't been for a while come and join us.  If you have problems logging on txt 027 637 2212 and I'll enter you.
Be there by 10.15 so we can start promptly and try and have time together at the end.
 
We hope Sharon is making a good recovery and no doubt will be racing around again soon.

Cam-gratulations to Cam Smith on his Open Championship victory yesterday, and win it he did with a fine inward 9 performance. I still can't stand the mullet though, glinting in the gorgeous Scottish sunshine
 
The world has gone topsy turvy, indeed, sunshine in Scotland and here?  Well  here, the weather last week was just a bit rubbish wasn't it? 
 
Not so much good for sinking putts as only good for actual sinking.
 
In fairness, it is the middle of winter, and so to be expected, but as I sit at the window watching a very large black cloud loom over the northern edge of town, it would be nice if the rain sodded off for a bit and let us play in footwear other than wellies (gumboots if you're a local)
 
I still think it should be a summer sport
